TV University

The TV University of the IAPM started its activities in October 2005 as an educational unit exercising teaching and educative functions using information and telecommunication technologies organizing distance learning (based on Internet and multimedia resources), conducting video lecture classes and training-educative measures and events, along with the research and teaching staff of the Presidential University, for the students of the Academy’s detached structural units through satellite communications.

The use of state-of-the-art technologies allowing for access to such a resource as satellite transponders and the opportunity to deliver information to virtually an unlimited number of consumers reducing, at the same time, the costs for operation of the network. The multimedia services includes telephony, videoconferences, Internet, distance learning, round-up of video materials as requested in the online mode and the like.

The Distance Learning Department that uses the multimedia technologies of the TV University introduced broadcasting of training, educative, and other measures and events to the regional Academy’s units in the videoconference mode.

A videoconference represents a computer technology enabling the users that are geographically distributed in different places to simultaneously see and hear each other, exchange information and conjointly process it in the interactive mode. The process of reading lectures in the videoconference mode occurs according to the following order: all conference participants see and hear the central studio; the central studio has a possibility to simultaneously see and hear all regional studios. This enables students and an instructor to freely communicate; they can ask questions and immediately get answers to them. If necessary, the regional units, if they need to conduct conferences, roundtables, have an opportunity to communicate not only with the central studio but also among them.

The following principal modules determine the subjects of the videoconferences: educative, training, research, and informational-analytical.
The training module includes courses for the students of day and correspondence students during 5 working days a week: the first shift – for the day form of training; the second shift – for the correspondence form of training. The disciplines may be chosen taking into account their relevance and topicality, professional orientation, as well as with an allowance for the available specialties and courses at the disposal of the regional units. Giving lessons in the videoconference mode involves experienced instructors of appropriate fields, outstanding scholars and practitioners in the spheres of economics, law, psychology and management, teaching TV courses on the most topical issues (subjects) of the disciplines of curriculum in the amount of 4-8 hours up to the complete lecture course of a discipline for the day form of training, and 2-4 hours per session for the correspondence form of training.

The educative module’s courses are held twice a week and provide for broadcasting of the meetings with prominent public characters and politicians, figures in the area of culture and arts; cultural and educational events, conferences, roundtables, meetings with students etc.
The research module covers the research activities of the Academy and includes broadcasting of the conferences, scientific and teaching-related seminars intended for the research and teaching staff in conformity with the schedule providing for scientific and interregional research events.

The informational-analytical module broadcasts the latest news of the Academy’s life, innovative measures, activity outcomes and the like.
The activities of the Ukrainian Popular University, whose courses are held in the videoconference mode at weekends, are aimed at forming a civil and a rule-of-law society in Ukraine. The students’ training is based on the interdisciplinary approach to studying the topical problems of contemporary business, economics and entrepreneurship, psychology, legislation, modern industrial engineering etc., as well as on learning by the students of an appropriate knowledge package necessary to efficiently discharge professional functions in the context of today’s social and economic conditions. The preparatory curriculum embraces studying a cycle of such disciplines as the basics of Christianity, Ukrainian studies, outlines of economics and entrepreneurship, political processes in Ukraine, legal and psychological fundamentals.

In addition to the above mentioned objectives, the videoconferences are also a right hand in work with the extensive network of branches: to coordinate management, efficiently perform the current tasks requiring personal involvement of staffers, operatively hold meetings, discussions, consultations and expert examinations, gather and immediately process information in the remote access mode, distantly train the personnel and the like.

To date, the Distance Learning Department using multimedia technologies already numbers around 4,300 students studying in more than forty regions of Ukraine and abroad and announces an additional enrolment of students for the following specialties:
